Yes, these photos are just a summary for BigJimny, there's loads more for my usual picture-heavy blog that will be up later tonight and I'll post the photo here for you...

The stub shaft has a small hole running through the end of the splined bit that fits into the free wheel hub, so I slid a screwdriver through there and gave it a waggle to get it fully through the hub, before securing with the square washer and circlip...

I expected the hole in the centre of the stubb shaft to be threaded for this - pulling it through the hub - but the little holes worked just as well... :)

Bah, just checked, I've uploaded all the photos but not written my own blog yet, but haven't got one of the actual square washer and circlip on...

This is the one before they were fitted though -

Hopefully you can just about see from that there's room to get them on... just! Nice and snug...

That shows the little hole going through the stub axle which I was able to wiggle to get the stub axle through, and the end of the CV into the back of the hub, to be able to get the washer and circlip on...

And then the next is with the free wheel hub on (D'Oh!) -

But, they are both on! ;) I can whip it off and get a photo? Or, I will get one of the other side tomorrow?... hopefully, when I reassemble the other side...

Hi Nick, PM answered B)

Yes, it's got to be nice and tight though?

Bit of waggling with a thin screwdriver through the end of the CV's shaft and it popped through enough to get the washer and circlip on...

Only thing I can think of would be too much grease where the round collar of the big CV fits into the recess on the back of the hub? So it wouldn't come through enough? That means stripping it down a fair bit though :(

I'll get more relevant photos when I do the other side...

Just thinking Nick...

Would neither side go on? the 'square' washer I mean? or just one side?

Dave

You're spot on Dave.

Changed bearings, seals and what not in the front axle earlier this year. Putting everything back together, filled the knuckle with grease. Then when I came to put on the square washer and circlip I simply couldn't pull the stub-axle out enough. Turned out I had put too much grease in the knuckle
