that's interesting guttercat, you getting 33 mpg in your unmodified 2006 JLX+

my 2007 JLX+ with a K&N filter, 32mm spacers and ATs gives 28mpg

Mudman

first rob a bank, then fill the Jim's tank with fuel until the nozzle cuts out - ie. the tank is completely full, then set your odometer to zero (trip) on the speedo.

Then do lots of miles and typically after 200 miles, go back to the garage and fill up with fuel - fill until the nozzle cuts out again.

Now take a note of how many miles you've actually covered, and a note of how many litres of fuel you've just put into the car.

then enter those two figures here .. www.mpg-calculator.co.uk/

I've averaged around 6.5l/100k's for 11 years for normal road driving, uses a bit more when I go bush, around 7l/100k's. I always use an alcohol blend, the 10% ethanol one. That fuel is 95 ron and seems to suit the Jimny best of all. It also happens to be one of the cheapest fuels available in Oz, from the "United" brand of servos.

Our fuels in Oz are Standard 91 ron, Super 96 ron, blended ethanol 10% 95 ron and blended ethanol 85% 97 ron. These are all of the unleaded variety.

My 98 jim does a steady 36mpg on my commute, 90% motorway and I sit at about an indicated 50 with 3" lift and 31" at's on standard gearing. If I do the local school run it drops to 30. It's all in the foot! If I rush and push along at 70-80 it starts to get very expensive.

I have standard air filter & standard tyres - as it left the factory I guess.
And I don't rev it up much beyond 3000.

Can I comment on Halford's calculation - if you fill up until the pump stops, then baby the trigger til the next full pound, you get a more accurate calculation. Reason being, pump pressures vary, and sometimes the pump stops early due to splashback. Before the tank is fully brimmed.

Most I've got in is 35.1 litres - for £47.00.
Does anybody know the "official" capacity of a Jimny tank?

If you fill up the tank to the brim (carry on slowly after the pump cuts out the first time), don't park the car up, drive it about 20 miles.

Otherwise, as the fuel warms up it expands, and makes the car stink of petrol as it tries to overflow (guess how I know)

It makes it hard to start and ruins the idle as well.

The reason the pump cuts out and you can get another gallon in afterwards is to leave that space for the fuel to expand.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)
