38mpg was created by Chilgrove
Some time ago I saw some discussions about mpg for a Jimny. I have recently done another check and I am getting 38.5 mpg which I think is pretty good. Not done any serious off roading (yet) and my driving is mainly city, and some longer rural trips.
I have always had a bee in my bonnet about only using the best engine oil so I use a fully synthetic Castrol Edge 5-40 in the belief that the less friction there is in the engine the better my fuel consumption will be. Although I am a cautious driver I am not slow.
I am surprised at how good the mpg is as I have always found the gearing to be too low. I can tootle along at 25 to 30 without labouring the engine in top gear which seems unusual. My Jimny is 2006 and it is completely unmodified.

I get 12-15mpg if i'm lucky
I tow mine behind a shogun which uses less fuel.
My new spark plugs have improved efficiency, but not clocked it yet, and don't plan on filling the tank as my jimny is not a daily driver, except when she is out and I don't want to use my works van.
