I machined the flywheel down to fit sj clutch and ring and bolted it to the box no plate used Suzuki starter motor was really easy but I do wish I had used Vauxhall starter now and done it like you have really

Blimey thats a diffent approach you must have had to take a fair bit of metal off the vauxhall flywheel to fit the suzuki ring gear and clutch and get it inside the bell housing i did look at doing it that way but after reading about not lightening of diesel flywheels i went the other way and went slightly heavier on the fly wheel as the Yanks do on there Hilux rock crawlers.
Vauxhall starter motor is a geared unit for more torque as are most diesel starters bet the old suzuki unit dont like that much with all the compression of a diesel to spin over.
Curious also as my engine must be sitting foward in the car by 25mm due to thethickness of adaptor plate you must be damn tite up against the bulkhead with your thermostat housing and induction pipes mine only just clears

yes the starter struggles sometimes especially when battery is low wish idea have gone the other way as like you say the starter on the diesel is designed for it I've got loads of clearance but I did knock the bulkhead in a little lol just in case
what do you mean about lighteninghe diesel fly wheel?

From what ive read and am led to beleive diesels dont respond well to having there flywheels lightened.
im assuming you have had to machine down where the ring gear sits and also had to machine the front off or out to sit the Suzuki clutch plus the Suzuki clutch is 0.5Kg lighter than the vauxhall unit it replaced and last but not least the ring gear you are using is now lighter so in essence you have reduced the mass of the flywheel and its ability to store angular kinetic energy.

I know KAP Suzuki have been developing a heavier flywheel for jimnys with awsome results for the petrol engine and there are companies who manufacture heavier flywheels for offroad use on Diesels so i decided that i would match the original weight of the Vauxhall clutch and flywheel and then increase it by 8% to see what the results are and at the moment its seems to have panned out guess time will tell :)
