Good luck with the rev counter issue, let me know how you get on!

Have you made the front winch bumper yourself?

Re the engine change and VOSA for registration purposes you will need an engineers report. This is just a check by a qualified motor engineer written on headed paper which your local garage can do. All the better if they are on the MOT register. It's not a mechanical check just a visual check of numbers and the change to "heavy oil" to prove what you say is true.My friendly local MOT man came round for free.
It used to be the case where you just filled in the changes section but not now so get a report for the engine change and send it off together.
This year I fitted a diesel engine to a bike and a report was required.
Now a couple of years ago I did the opposite on a Hijet diesel pickup. The diesel engines in these were crap and I changed to the petrol engine. When it came to the MOT emissions test you have to be able to prove the age of the engine otherwise the CAR will be tested according to it's listed emissions.
There is a section in the MOT manual to allow engine changes.
All I did was get a photocopy of the original car V5 the engine came from so you could have a much later car, with very stringent emissions, fitted with an older engine which will be emissions tested on the year of the ENGINE alone.
The Jimny is petrol so unless you get the registration process sorted it'll never pass the emissions with a diesel fitted.
As for the other mods providing they pass an MOT it will be ok legally but I expect your insurance company might say something??

I started off high and worked my way down ever since :-)
