i've been going over the workshop manual & found the pictures for the ring & compared to the picture i took of how mine is fitted:

do you guys think i'm correct in thinking it's pretty much exactly 180 degrees out ? i'm guessing i could potentially remove the cam, mark it out again & rotate it back to where it should be, but having removed it twice will be making any errors in alignment far worse.

thoughts ?

also thanks a ton for all your help & suggestions thus far, really appreciate it as i'm literally on my pushbike right now lol.

If your drawing is correct, and the picrure oriented correctly, looks as though the disc should be rotated 120 degrees clockwise, until the single tooth currently at 4 o'clock lines up with the scribe mark, but I'd do a bit more checking first.

Don't move the cam relative to the crank, this will change the valve timing and bend the valves.

Best plan I can think of is to have a look in the back of the garage for an old fashioned timing light, connect to #1 lead, point it at the crank pulley & timing scale and crank the engine.

If it doesn't flash at all, the ignition is dead, maybe the sensor can't see the disc or an immobiliser fault.

If it sparks out of line, measure the angle and move the cam disc half of it.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

If you can source another cam it will be much better than trying to guess you only need to borrow one or if you have a mate whip rocker cover off them both you will find inside a little spuare stuck out its the ony marking i could use off the camshaft you could look at another then tap yours around untill you think it's right then give it a shot

Hi
Surely even if the cam sensor ring not correctly set you`ll still get a spark at the plugs

Starter will crank over quite happily even if immobilised

In my reply, it should read 120 degrees anticlockwise (I'm not too good with directions  )

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)
