My calculations made it nearer 50mpg. Even so, I doubt it. That's nearly 50% more than Suzuki say!

My Jim gets double the economy of my last car, I've been tracking it.
I fill to first click, at the same service station, using the same fuel each time.

In the graphic you can see a 4wd weekend at 8.48 and a special highway run with economy in mind at 6.61.

Mostly i drive around town, peak hour with the air-con on and don't actually worry about driving economically as it's so damn cheap compared to my last car

I check my 2005 VVT Jimny (completely unmodified) every few months and I am always getting 37 / 38 MPG. That is an eight mile journey to work every day and some town driving (@ 50MPH / 2,800 RPM approximately).

I get 200 -250 miles per tank, don't know what mpg that is and I don't care if I wanted economy I would get an alto like my wife used to have, £32 to fill from light on flashing and it was doing 350-380 miles until it flashed again, but really shit off road

Been through 7 tanks of fuel since i bought my jim...

same as above, if i was really bothered about fuel economy, i would be driving something else.
just into the habit of putting it into an app on my phone every time i fuel up, gives me all the stats.

Mixed driving, 80/20 on/off road, tracks, lanes, roads, and motorways,
completely standard apart from swapping tyres, although still standard size ATs

2005 VVT jim

Distance travelled - 1396 miles
Fuel consumed - 185.32 litres

Average Fuel comsumption - 34.25 mpg

Not too bad IMO.

The problem is that the NEDC used to calculate "combined" mpg (they don't measure it directly) is very artificial. Most people drive a lot of short trips, get stuck in traffic or do 80mph on the motorway (OK, maybe not the last one in a Jimny) and all these hammer mpg relative to the official figure.

I don't do short trips and can always get the official figure or slightly better out of a car on an average run up to Northampton from Swindon. My MX-5 has averaged 41.5mpg (brim-brim each time) over its first 5,000 miles; manufacturer claimed figure is 39.9mpg. It's slightly more aerodynamic than a Jimny but has a 1.8 litre engine of similar design.
