Thanks for the info...

Heres where im at. I have only been trying to engage 4WD stood stationary with the clutch dipped...

Iv just come back from my local garage - who to be honest aren't the best however they looked underneath and said that some pipes are rusty - possible vacuum pipes so they have advised that I change them..

another thing, is that when i select 4wd and it doesn't engage but it won't also go back into 2wd with the push of a button, iv literally got to switch off the engine and back on ignition before it will click into 2wd.

Do you recommend I have all the pipes underneath replaced - they said they would replace with brake pipe - ?

On the Jimny there are (effectively) two separate systems to operate 4wd.
The vacuum system engages the hubs( you should hear them click in when 4wd selected) as in the video. Get someone outside to listen for the clicks.
The other system is that solenoids on the transfer box operate the 4wd and engage it at the same time as the vacuum system.
Rusted pipes are a common problem and most people replace them with flexible tubes.
Some people just fit manual hubs and block off the vacuum system or using a spacer permanently engage the hubs.
Firstly establish if the vacuum system is engaging the hubs. If you don't hear the clicks that might be your problem.
The hubs can stick if not used so might need cleaning??
There are various ways of getting round this but first check the vacuum.
This might help to understand it and there is plenty of info if you do a search for vacuum pipes/manual hubs.

If you are hearing the hubs engage then the lack of vacuum is not the problem but you may want to change the pipes anyway?

I started off high and worked my way down ever since :-)

thanks for that,

i will be getting the garage to check the pipes, and replace if needed...

i read the pdf, that seems very helpful.

Just a quick one, im pretty sure the 4wd is not engaging, because the light keeps flashing.. however, any reason why it does not select 2wd after i have hit the 4wd button... it just makes that grinding sound unless i switch off the engine then it will select 2wd
