Jimny Owner - Encountered 1st Problem 4x4 - HELP! was created by alix4x4
Hi Guys, Apologies that my 1st post is a advice/problem post!
Recently purchased a 2006 Suzuki Jimny for the other half,
Now I have nothing to compare against so Im hoping someone on here will have similar year/car and will know what my car should be doing...
Basically, on standstill when I select 4wdH (the middle button) I get a constantly flashing green light - And I can hear something engaging HOWEVER, As soon as I select 1st gear there is a loud noise from the centre of the car like a grinding sound and it will not move when the clutch is lifted - NOISE occurs when I try setting off...
Then to reselect 2wd by pushing the button doesn't work unless I switch off the engine and then press the button - they it will make a psss/air release sound and go back into 2WD.
Drives perfect on 2wd,
and when I select 4wd-L from 2WD all i get is 3 beeps with no light on the dash...
So guys, sorry that my first post is a problem post - but this is really driving me nuts as Im not sure if something is wrong or if im doing it incorrectly....
any help appreciated

This might help but please note you cannot use 4wd on tarmac or you may cause damage. It's only to be used on loose/slippery surfaces such as snow/gravel/mud.

Have you tried moving slowly and pressing the 4wd button?
The flashing light means it's not engaging.

Yes I have pressed the button and when I move off slowly there seems to be a loud grinding sound from under the car, and when i dip my clutch the noise goes away...
Thats what I think too - it isn't engaging....

Just to confirm you are using the clutch when selecting 4wd??
Make sure you push it to the floor as it has a switch.
When I said try moving slowly I meant as you select 4wd not moving away.
It has been known that if the mechanicals aren't quite lined up by moving a little everything engages.
Drive in a straight line at less than 50mph (preferably slower) and dip the clutch(leaving it in gear) and try engaging 4wd.
If you can find a gravel car park or similar it might make it easier.
Anyway if after all this the light still flashes then you have a problem.
Chances are it's nothing more than the connectors on the transfer box.
If 4wd hasn't been used for a long time like most things electrical they can stop working.
If you can get underneath you will see some connectors just unplug them a few times and check for anything obvious.
