I am currently looking at my old genuine CV joint (it sits on my work desk and I say to the people it's one of the cups form Indiana Jones 3 - supposedly the right one).

The engraved marking clearly states "NTN EBJ82".

Therefore, the conclusion is that the NTN model EBJ82 exists in several "form factors" and therefore we can't rely on the model name itself?

Wait a second - the left CV joint on Martin's photo looks VERY similar like my genuine NTN EBJ82 CV joint! The only difference which I see is that Martin's CV joint has a "lip" around the cup and mine does not. Is that important?

Here is the picture of my genuine CV joint:

So do we possibly have a match here !?

No, the one on the left is a Suzuki one, the NTN EBJ82 bought on the internet is on the right.

I have spoken to NTN and the EBJ82 refers to the joint itself including shaft diameters, splines, balls and casing diameters. The stub shaft itself then comes in further definitions hence the difference in appearance between a Suzuki EBJ82 (your picture) and a Landrover EBJ82 (on the right in my picture)

NTN has informed me that the joint for Suzuki is manufactured exclusively for them and cannot be supplied to other distributors.

Now I see.

You did a complete investigation of that case.

So, the conclusion is that there is no chance or hope of buying a new, genuine, Jimny-compatible, NTN EBJ82 CV joint anywhere, except in Suzuki dealerships. Or a second hand one in vehicle junkyards.

I found something new regarding this issue which might bring some fresh air in.

Several months ago, I found picture of a CV joint (made by NKN Japan) on a Russian forum, which appears to be compatible with the 29-internal-spline "rare" CV joint type used in Jimnys (OEM P.N. 44101-84A00 and 44102-84A00).

Unfortunately, i lost the URL to that Russian forum, but I kept the pictures. I forgot about the pictures as well, until I stumbled upon them again today.

See the attached pictures (which I downloaded from that unknown Russian forum), which tell everything.

So far, the only aftermarket-made compatible 29-internal-spline (but 6-ball) CV joint was Herth+Buss Jakoparts J2828040.

Now, this NKN N-5979-2H0 should be another one CV joint which is compatible. And it is made in Japan.

Who knows, the Jakoparts and NKN might be the same product! You see, Herth+Buss is just a rebadging distributor (they hardly make anything, if even that), while NKN actually manufactures things.

Note: NTN and NKN are completely different manufacturers (both make balls and joints for automotive industry).

Now, the second part of the story is how to obtain these NKN CV joints.

Here is NKN's Japanese web site: www.nkn-joints.co.jp/
Here is NKN's English web site: http://www.nknjoints.comhttp://www.nknjoints.com

In order to obtain access to their parts catalogue, you need to register with them, and you need a company for that. They did not approve my registration request.

If someone else manages to register, we could then make further progress with finding which of their products are compatible and where to buy them.
