Seems there are mixed feelings about the kit, as suspected ;P

There are many sellers of lift kits so its down to the price you are willing to pay

The Jimnybits lift is a good value bit of kit and you can pick which dampers you want
But if you want to you can pay significantly more for ORA or D&G or Trailmaster etc

As for the rear shocker relocators there is a difference of opinion above but this is the first time any one has advised not fitting them,
They will free up the angle the damper works at and will space the shocker away from the coil if the new shockers are fatter so stop them hitting each other but they can lead to a rattle depending on the size of the bushes

There are non on ours but its not a conscious decision - it didn't have them on when we bought the jimny and after 4 years of offroading have only recently repaced the bushes - but that was because all the bushes were buggered so went polybushes all round
We are now fitting taller springs so will see if the relocators are needed then
hope this helps

Thanks. That does help. I think Rus should probably add it as a recommended part then for the kits with no rear castor correction.
I have what is technically a relocator with this spacer lift I have on currently, I think it may be a bit tall (40mm) to be used just a relocator.
For the mean time I will try save some money (or wait for the exchange rate to improve ;)).
Currently struggling with the dealers here. They replaced my clutch cable with what appears to be a cable from a LHD model, so it's way too long. I would do it myself but the car is under warranty etc...

Hi All,

I have a 99 Jimny and I am looking to install a Jimnybits 3" lift kit. I am going to be using an ARB front bumper (with no winch). Would you guys recommend the ES1000s for my project?

If I decide to fit a simple 6 point roll cage will the ES1000s still be ideal or should I go with the ES3000?

Thanks alot

I have a heavy 6 point external cage, winch bumper with winch. I use +3 jimnybits springs and pro comp es3000 shocks for over 4 years and I think its well set up. I will get avo adjustable shocks soon from jimnybits as they have a narrower body and I just want to try them out.

I have had 3" KAP springs with Pro-comp shocks - lasted a long time with heavy off-roading - shocks eventually began to froth inside when hot so I replaced the whole suspension with Big Jimny 3" springs and this time went with Rough Country shocks - not really used them off-road much so can't comment.

I now have ORA castor correction arms but before I did not and my rear shock lower mounts ran at a silly angle and did wear out quickly as Gary describes. They would do though at that angle!

I wonder if it is the same at only 2" though?

If you do use a shock re-locator, it will effectively extend your shock. You therefore may want to find a way - such as ORA rear bottom spring mounts, to stop your rear springs dislocating and ensure you have longer brake lines. Alternatively, order shorter rear shocks.

My favourite design of rear shock mounts is the Rhino Ray version as it is bushed too: www.rhinorays.co.uk/suspension.htm

I have a pair of these but with castor correction arms have not deemed them necessary.

The idea of the shock re-locators is that they allow the shock to move in two planes, so it never binds up at a silly angle.

I really must drill my rear shock mount out and use a longer bolt and nut rather than the standard bolt that may snap off.

I have an ARB front bumper with a 9500lb winch in it, I find the stiffer shocks cope with the (massive!) weight better , so I would recommend ES3000 for a road car over ES1000's. Mines only used off road , I have ES 9000's all round which are stiffer still.
