The rear shock re locators stop the bottom shock bush from wearing out in 5 minutes, when you lift the car it increases the angle of the rear shock bolt.

Wears out in 5 minutes? Who told you that?

These relocators are a waste of money if you ask me, and with them installed these a bigger risk of you shocks bottoming out, with damage to follow.

So no, you do not need shocks relocators.

Tom, I've been driving modded jimnys for 10 years, I've had 6 in that time, I drew the original design for shock relocators on a fag packet 9 years ago to alleviate the problem of rear shock lower bushes destroying themselves in no time on lifted jimnys where the rear axle has rotated due to the lift. Shocks bottom out when you fit shocks of the wrong length, if you fit rear shock brackets take that into account when purchasing your shocks.

Gary

I can't really see how any of these things make the relocators more useful.
What is useful though is correcting the castor angle on the rear axle which will also make the spring sit correctly in the mount.
And also, if you need to buy +2" shocks for 3" lift springs because you've fitted these relocators is just a bit silly reallly.

And I can say that after 1.5 years of hard offroading and winch challenge that my bushes are still just as good as new. And I haven't even corrected the castor angle. So yes, these relocators are just a waste of money.

Just 1.5 years experience hey Tom. I greenlane pretty hard with other jimnys, we cover a lot of miles in them but they are used for offroad trips only, they are not our daily drivers , previously we would destroy lower rear shock bushes in a couple of months , haven't changed any for years now with shock locators.Front castor bushes in the rear will correct your diff pinion angle and by doing this you have corrected the angle of the lower rear shock bolts so you wont have this problem, so you dont need the brackets if fitting front castor bushes in the rear, but others will benefit from them certainly if driven and used regularly. If you don't think you need them don't buy them, others have the experience of driving jimnys for a very long time (10 years plus for a few of us) both with and without the brackets and I wouldn't have a car without them - nor would I fit front castor bushes in the rear axle as I dont think the diff pinion angle needs correcting, certainly not had any problems with that or the rear spring seat angles in 10 years and several cars.
Your choice but don't criticise others experience, guy in question doesnt have front castor bushes in rear axle and will therefore have a short life of his rear shock bushes without the rear shock locators.

Basically MOST people I know have experienced a great benefit from having the rear shock locators, if you dont have a problem with lower rear shock bushes wearing out quickly then dont buy any.

Apologies to the original poster if Tom and I have hijacked your post with our rants. Rus at Jimnybits is a friendly guy, he has been off roading a jimny for years now and has the experience to advise on what springs and shock length you should buy and will obviously have his own opinion on rear shock locators, given that there are now 5 manufacturers of these brackets should tell you something.

Must be UK thing then, as all 5 fabricators are UK based, and you don't see anyone use shock relocators in South Africa, Australia or the rest of europe. And I wouldn't be surprised if they don't use them in South America as well.

But hey.. Them aussies are all just newbies right ;)

I realise that you know everything but having just done a quick search on an Aussie forum its quite clear that many of the Aus guys are running JB shock extensions. The JB stuff has a good reputation in Aus, they seem a buy a lot of it despite the shipping costs.

Some Suzukis and a bunch of motorcycles.

Hey, it's not me claiming to know everything, as I have less than 2 years of experience ;)
And I'm very well aware that JB kits has a good reputation in other countries.

Well the Jimny has not been on the market in SA for very long, so there is a chance that the guys here are not aware that the bushes will wear prematurely.
Seems there are mixed feelings about the kit, as suspected ;P
