I think a hidden breaker switch in the line from the door pin to the alarm brain is the way to go.

Thanks for the idea Alex. As a result while I was tearing down the CL light to look for wires I discovered that the light coming on sets off the alarm so I am sure it is current sensing. This means that I really do not need a lead to the door's pin switch after all and the doors can be kept well out of it. As long as the bulb hasn't blown!!
I'll sort out a pin switch in the bonnet soon though.
This means the unit is now working as you would want and the job is done.

i dont belive a rear door pin is needed as its all part of the cars central locking. my hawk alarm didnt come with one.
