Odd, isn't it? I went in for my MoT four years ago with a dodgy light on the number plate, and only thought of it when the MoT was about halfway through. It passed, and has passed for the past three years - still with the dodgy bulb. MoT guy said it doesn't matter! I've also had worn bearings in the upper support of the Macpherson strut for two years now - again, guy said it doesn't matter (even though it makes the steering sound as though it's going to break).

When my reverse switch failed I wired the lights up to a switch on the dash so I could still use the lights for reversing in the dark.

It was the done thing a few decades ago..................and a nice big lamp too.
I think having reverse lights working as they should these days is possibly the right way to go though.

It could just be that the plug on the reversing light switch is not on properly or the switch is broken. Easy fixes.
