never ever ever drive it in 4wd on anything but mud snow or very loose gravel.
there is no centre diff so you would wind the transmission up something chronic!

Where are you based, Daniel?
If you're anywhere near East Yorkshire I'll give you a hand, I've done a couple myself.

I might give it a go..... But I'm worried about the wheel behaviour when on full lock it feels strange need to try it on some mud or lose surface to see if it still feels weird like Martin mentioned if it is the cv joint might as well get it all done at the same time.....didn't reailise I couldn't drive it in four whell drive on Tarmac  ( not done it much only when we had a flutter of snow and it was slippery out)
Troggy thanks for the info I will have ago next time the how to link Martin gave me was very good and I'll probabl be needing it.
Cheers gusthegorilla (Chris) but I'm in kent so bit of a trek
Thanks for all the help great forum

Take it apart with new King Pin bearings at the ready and if it has blown a CV you can replace the King Pin bearings on both sides and just don't put the shaft back in on the side the CV is damaged.
The car is normally only rear wheel drive so you an use the car with no shaft on one side at the front with no issues. Then when you get a new one, take that side apart and pop the new one in.
If it was just the King Pin bearings then job done.
Don't assume a CV is knackered if it appears ok but is notchy. It is probably dry from grease only. I cannot think any Jimny will have worn a CV out. They blow them up but as they are only in 4wd for a small amount of their lives, if ever, they will not wear the CV's.

The instructions on the sun visor are quite clear about when you can use 4wd. Using it on wet and slippery roads is ok. Everyone talks about wind-up but I've never heard of anyone causing damage to a standard Jimny by using 4wd on the road? My experience (from driving in 4wd on dry roads on purpose) is that the tyres 'skip' before wind-up gets too bad. This is what you will have felt when turning.

Good idea Kirkynut think I will do that sounds like a plan.. As busta has mentioned if the cv joint is lacking Grease will I be able to grease this part up when I change the king pin bearing?
Busta I think that might it, feels like it doesn't want to move or it is jammed
Thanks guys
