newbie with a problem was created by Daniel30
Hi everyone im new to the site and apologies' if its in the wrong category, I have a 07 plate jimny and its the first 4x4 I have owned loving it to bits very quirky and cant wait to get some more mods for it I have general grabbers on it and the modular steels which make it look better and waiting for the funds for a 2" lift just for a bit of soft off roading, there are a couple of questions though - when I had it in four wheel drive a couple of weeks ago pulling into my drive slowly on a tight lock it felt like the left wheel was getting stuck on some thing and it didn't want to turn (if this makes sense)back in two wheel drive it is fine on the same lock,

The other question is what is happening in this picture attached is it bad news??

thanks for your time

1. Don't drive in 4 wheel drive on road or tarmac. If it still "pulls" on the steering when on mud or other loose surface then the CV joint may have failed.

2. Looks like the Kingpin Bearings have worn out in the picture.

its only bad news depending on where you go. Its a straight forward and cheap process in itself. The parts are in the BigJimny store

www.bigjimny.com/store/index.php?_a=product&product_id=6

And there is a guide on how to do it.

www.bigjimny.com/images/documents/Changi...KingPin_Bearings.pdf

It should take a competent DIY home mechanic a couple of hours and someone more experienced less than an hour to do. I am not a mechanic and I can do both sides in an hour now as I have had to do it so many times.

However, I have seen some garages quote £400 to £800 because they want to change everything (including in a couple of instances the ENTIRE axle). This is not right!

Very useful thank you I'll get some tools and give it a go cheaper than a garage, will I need the swivel seal thing?
