Just to add you don't see any SJ's about either as they have mostly been put off the road through rust.
As the Jimny is a developement of that model it rots although not as bad and of course they are still making them so they are still prominent on the road.
There are still early Jimnys around so they are not bad for 15 yr old cars??
Pity no kit car manufacturer made a "practical" body replacement lol
I said PRACTICAL not the Fourtrax buggy type things lol

But for off road surely something like this would be ideal.

Yes ideal for off road or competition but by practical I meant a family bodyshell with roof and doors and easy to get in.
That's how kit cars originally came about.
Basically you just replaced your old bodyshell with a modern fibreglass body either sporty type or saloon.
These days everything is modified at great expense and is nothing like the original concept of a kit car to carry on motoring at minimal cost.
Something along the lines of the Rickman but more modern/stylish.

No but I read a couple of classic car magazines and have read their long term rust tests.
Here's a couple of recent links from another Forum that discusses the subject though you might need to be signed in to read them. Sorry if that's the case.

Re a kit car re body I'm pretty sure the Jago jeep is perfect. Originally a fibre glass body on a substantial box section chassis using mostly Mk1 and 2 escort running gear with a few other variations
Geoff Jago took his moulds off a Willys jeep which is why the design has never dated like some of the other utility style kits- Rickman Ranger Dutton Sierra, Eagle etc which are all looking a bit dated.
For some unknown reason Jago owners with a knackered gel coat think a coat of NATO green is all that it takes to sort it.
As the classic ford boom continues many fordy based kits are being bought up and stripped of the running gear leaving a shell and possibly a chassis going cheap.
