As the subject of rust has come up a couple of times recently (one was mine) I decided I would add a comment to this more detailed thread. In my last post, I mentioned that I would do a little investigating into products for rustproofing cars. I will share what I found in case anyone is interested.

Living in the Philippines I was surprised to find that the only vehicle rustproofing service is Ziebart. They also happened to be mentioned in this thread. As they were the only professional service available, that is where I started. That research didn't take long as there was at least a 10 to 1 ratio of bad customer reviews compared to good. They may be a great service with a great product but I didn't like those odds.

While researching Ziebart, I found info about corrosion preventative products that were tested by the Canadian army. I was surprised they included WD-40 and didn't test waxoyl.

The 2006 test:
CPC............................................ Manufacturer
WD-40...................................... WD-40 Products (Canada) Ltd.
Corrosion Free, Formula 3000.... Canadian Tire
ACF-50 ..................................... ..Lear Chemical Research Corp.
LPS-2 ..........................................LPS Laboratories
Krown T-40 .................................Krown Body Maintenance
Rustcheck Dripless ......................Rust Check Corp.
Corrosion Block ...........................Lear Chemical Research Corp.
Boeshield T-9 ..............................PMS Products Inc.
Rustcheck Red ............................Rust Check Corp.

2006 Test Results:

The one that came out as the best for standard environment (no salt) was ACF-50. This is a product also mentioned in this thread. The best overall (which included severe environment with salt exposure) was Corrosion Free Formula 3000. I was surprised to read later that Krown is what is used by the Canadian army, as well as the U.S. army. Krown also had a relatively large fan base on that forum but several members mentioned that it wreaked havoc on any rubber it contacted that wasn't properly coated with silicon spray prior to treatment. Even then, some reported that it swelled door seals due to minor dripping months after treatment.
As I said, I'm not sure if this is of any benefit to anyone but thought I would share what I have read so far.

I started out with nothing & still have most of it left

Another cpc we use in aviation is dinitrol Av 8 I'm surprised it's not on the above test, it's easy to use, dries hard and is brilliant for cavity protection and not hugely expensive.
