what exactley is involved in changing side gears and what can you get 26 spline side gears from SJ sammy rear diff i think?
what appeals to me is they do a conversion kit that allows you to use they re 4 pin centre section and mech locker, i presume you still need to aquire 26 spline side gears, hmmmm but now i am into the realms of needing someone to build this for me

this may be the decider whether to go 22 or 26 spline.
Surely even with 26 Spline side gears the original diff is not stronger? RS also do a kit that allows you to go 4 pin on the front diff then they do some even heavier duty shafts!
Swapping sidegears is pretty straightforward. But takes a couple of hours probably.
Going from 22 to 26 splines does not affect the strength of the diff itself. It only affects the shaft. But how many of you have ever broken then shaft at the diff end? All shafts I've seen break have been at the CV end or the CV itself.
Also no need to start panicking about weak front diffs and such. How many broken front diffs have you heard talk about on this forum? Supergaz' is the only one I've seen.
The reason why I like the 22 splines design from RCV Performance is that if the shafts or CVs should fail, you can always swap with a standard shaft and you're good to go again. And then it's only a matter of going back to the shop and swap the broken shaft/CV for a new one on warranty. Can you do the same with RS stuff?
You should read my previous posts in the topic

The shafts I linked to earlier are for the samurai, just as an example. It is my local 4x4 supplier that together with RCV Performance have started the process of making 22 splines shafts and CVS for the Jimny. They to come up any where on any website.
As I wrote earlier. It is much less complicated installing these 22 splines shafts from RCV than the ones from RS. And I'm pretty confident that the RCV ones are just as strong as the RS shafts and CVs, if not stronger.
But it requires that you have to wait a few months for the RCV stuff.

There's a blog on stripping and rebuilding the front axle here -

Ok maybe I will hang on about it certainly simplifies things using a 22 spline set up and also with the warranty also.
I will try and do another search for your posts. Big Jimny search not the best lol maybe I'll try search from Google should bring me back. Thanks for your help and advice

If you upgrade to an arb it becomes 4 pin, so much stronger, just like Land Rovers. You also get a locker but you'll need a rear one to go with it so fortunes are needed.
See what I meant?

Edit: just read Jimnydms post saying that RS does a kit to convert the Jimny front diff to 4 pin, which I assume are 26 spline to match their shafts, so that will be the way to go unless you want an arb, at which point you may as well get a 22 spline arb and these new 22 spline shafts to keep it simple.

Seems like it's 22 or 26 spline? and designed to run a lockright type (un)locker in the front axle...
