+1 on the waterproof grease.

It is a nice blue colour as well B)

I've been using the left overs on the bearings on the pushbikes and the head races on my motorbike.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

I used the waterproof grease in my CVs too and then a friend suggested I ought not do cos it's not meant for compression like CV grease is. Then I explained how Jimjam swivel seals are dust seals and not watertight like the old SJ he had and that keeping some grease in the CVs rather than it washing out is better than using the right grease but it emulsifying with water that has got past the seals.

When I was constantly driving through water and sloppy crap I used to smear waterproof grease on the swivel to reduce what got past the seal and it worked well, but you don't want it there in dusty situations or it'll get grit and crap stuck to it that'll get into your kingpin bearings & CVs.

That sounds like a plan.

You use that waterproof grease for the CV's as well as the bearings? (Kirkynut - you kept it in your CV's?).

Just trying to get my head around the correct procedures:
  • Waterproof grease / LM grease for the bearings (blue or yellow, depending on which)
  • CV grease for the CV (grey)
  • Or waterproof grease for both items?

I used waterproof grease for packing the swivel and CV joint. But the bearing came with grease so Ieft that as it was because I was not sure if the waterproof grease would standup to the friction/constant churning inside the bearing.

I'm a cheapskate so I used non waterproof grease but I have no intention of going near any rivers, or wet roads or snow unless it is an emergency.

water proof grease is designed to boat trailer wheel bearings when your putting boat and trailer in and out of water so its good on all the front bearings and cv joint
