Here in Denmark a set of Y60 axles usually are around £4-500. I know shipping is expensive. But perhaps worth looking into. Y61 axles are around £900-1000 here in Denmark, if I remember correctly. Y61 axles have much stronger cv joints than y60.
There's a pair of Y60's on ebay for £675 or best offer.
Can you fit a rear locker in the front axle to give you full diff lock ?

Not really Dave, the rear axle is 33spline and the front axle is 31 spline.
i've tried swapping side gears in the diff and its a no go.
you have to swap a rear diff pan on to the front axle as well.
Y60 cv's weak as well, cal offroad have there shafts and cv's on a special at the moment but they are only for 31 spline diffs.
The only off the shelft option for 33 spline shafts are RCV Be sure to sit down when you read the price!!!!
I am currently putting a pair of factory locked rear patrol diffs inside unimog 404 steering ends for my Gwagon, as i really like the patrol locking mechanism, the locking actuator is vunerable as standard though, i am improving that as well.

The Y60 front CVs are not as strong as the Y61 ones. But they're aren't that weak.
A buddy of mine runs standard Y60 axles on his buggy. Tyres are 38" Maxxis Creepy Crawler, engine is a Chevy 6.2 turbo-diesel V8. Sure, he has broken a couple of CVs, but only because of some pretty rough terrain.
