Many thanks.

I broke that one under a pajero hybrid that i built, it was powered by an izusu 2.8 and weighed a little over 1600kg
i cannot remember what tyres i was running probably either 35x12.5r15 bfg muds or 35x11.5r15 simex, it was few years ago!
Well you're not comparing apples with apples then are you!
How does a 1600kg 2.8L td 35" tyred Pajero hybrid compare to a 1.3 powered petrol Zuk that has nowhere near as much power or torque and weighs less? They just don't in this argument. They are completely different beasts. That's without considering tyre sizes!

How much do you think a jimny weighs after you've fitted twin winches, bumpers, sills, roll cage, larger tyres and diesel conversion?
I'd be very suprised if a fully spec'ed jimny comes in at much less than 1500kg
My point was.... because you seem to have overlooked it!
For the toyota's set of longfields are $645 and you WILL be able to beat the crap out of them
For the merc's set of rcv shafts and cv's are $1750 to get to a decent strength, that coupled with the complexity of flipping the front diff. puts the g wagon axles beyond sensible reach for most diy'ers.
I'm not knocking Dave's choice, i too fitted Gwagon axles to a jimny about 8 years ago!!! but with the price that you can buy and upgrade toyota axles for today the mercs just don't make sense.
