How does a 1600kg 2.8L td 35" tyred Pajero hybrid compare to a 1.3 powered petrol Zuk that has nowhere near as much power or torque and weighs less? They just don't in this argument. They are completely different beasts. That's without considering tyre sizes!

How much do you think a jimny weighs after you've fitted twin winches, bumpers, sills, roll cage, larger tyres and diesel conversion?
I'd be very suprised if a fully spec'ed jimny comes in at much less than 1500kg
My point was.... because you seem to have overlooked it!
For the toyota's set of longfields are $645 and you WILL be able to beat the crap out of them
For the merc's set of rcv shafts and cv's are $1750 to get to a decent strength, that coupled with the complexity of flipping the front diff. puts the g wagon axles beyond sensible reach for most diy'ers.
I'm not knocking Dave's choice, i too fitted Gwagon axles to a jimny about 8 years ago!!! but with the price that you can buy and upgrade toyota axles for today the mercs just don't make sense.
Who mentioned a diesel conversion? I spoke about a standard 1.3 with it's 80 something horses & crap torque.
Under 1600kg, even if only by a couple of hundred.
Dave has what he has.
I think the term you used in respect of g wagon axle breakages was "pathetic".
I don't actually care, I just wanted to point out you needed to do a proper comparison if you were to say one would not work in the application of a Jimny with a 1.3.
I'm not into forum arguments & don't care who's right or wrong. They just get silly, so I'll leave you too it.

Here in Denmark a set of Y60 axles usually are around £4-500. I know shipping is expensive. But perhaps worth looking into. Y61 axles are around £900-1000 here in Denmark, if I remember correctly. Y61 axles have much stronger cv joints than y60.

There's a pair of Y60's on ebay for £675 or best offer.
