The hubs arrived today. Should the splined part rotate freely when free is selected because on one it remains locked??

I thought it was coming with 10mm spacers but instead I have a bunch of 2mm ones. They look a little too hand crafted for my liking.

Ye it should rotate freely. Might be worth carefully stripping it down as it maybe full of mud grit & rust or the mechanism may have come apart like mine had, if so carefully strip the free one and use it as guide for reassembly.

LOL

It was even jammed completely after I had got a wrench to it.
So dunno about 'carefully' - I had the top off and the springs and bits and pieces on the worktop before I could even think Jack Robinson let alone say it once it had jammed.

Interestingly the bolts were what I would call loose, just a bit more than finger tight!!!

I soon had the idea as to how it works but putting it all back together again and getting the gasket on (it lacks some of the slots - gasket is not in the picture) took a bit of time. The peened-over lips (x2) that hold the (outer) teeth mechanism together has to go down a particular slot. Anyhoooo, I put some grease on what I describe as the bayonet fitting and it seems fine. The whole thing looked a lot dry. I could do with finding out if it all needs lube and if it does I should dismantle it and lube it.

The spacers look like a waste of time so I might end up getting this lot.
