I've got a 13,000lb winch on mine and that's more than enough to get myself out only used it 3times 1 of which was to pull a vitara out another time to try pull a shogun out but pulled the winch forward and shorted out last time I used it I was half way up the wheels in sticky mud and it pulled me straight out no messing, you should only need at most a 9500lb I've yet to winch myself anywhere on a green lane aswell

Not being a winch expert (I have never had a winch), but would a cable damper help to prevent a wire/dynema from lashing out when it breaks? From the YouTube videos they do...

You are MEANT to use a cable damper (guessing you mean a weighted blanket sorta thing) when using a wire rope so of it snaps it pulls it down to the floor, guessing it will make the cable fold in half if that makes sense.

Yes it is the wrap around sleeve with weights in it. Or an old mattress :lol:jonesyba420 wrote: You are MEANT to use a cable damper (guessing you mean a weighted blanket sorta thing) when using a wire rope so of it snaps it pulls it down to the floor, guessing it will make the cable fold in half if that makes sense.

Cable dampers are all very well if the cable breaks close to or under the damper. If it snaps any distance from the damper you can still get whip. But like I said, the strength of steel ropes makes it highly unlikely you will ever break one unless you neglect or abuse it.
