I'd go for a 90 rather then a shogun

I'd rather not go off roading than go in a 90, I'm thinking of changing for comfort reasons as much as anything so going from a jimny to a 90 to me is a backward step

I looked into these a while ago and found it was the Shogun sold in the UK that had the rear difflock as standard on most models. It's electric and will probably never have been used so may not work, but won't take much to get working.

They do look like nice trucks and the 2.8 diesel does seem to be the one go have. The only problem they suffered with was injector pump seals at high mileage but they can be re sealed by specialists for not too much.

I know some very nice modded Pajeros, very capable. Like with most of the Jap trucks you've got IFS up front so articulation isn't great - you can get some good articulation at the back though and that, along with maybe rear a rear locker or LSD, overcomes some of the problems at the front.

I went from a modded 3.1 swb Trooper to the Jimny as I was getting bored of laning and was ready to throw the towel in - I wanted something as different as possible to put the fun back into things and I'm loving it - but for power and comfort you'll love a big Jap truck on the road and the lanes Richie.

I think the 2.8 can be prone to head problems though. An old-time 3.1 Isuzu engine on the other hand will go on forever, long after the rest of the trooper has rotted away  Although there are some cracking Pajeros about my first choice would be a Trooper (and you can run the 3.1 on straight veg oil in the summer ;) )
