jimnydms wrote: thanks for all your help!! just quickly, why? or would i? benefit more by having the winch solenoid pack mounted directly on the motor itself ?
Less voltage-drop in the cables.

I've only been an auto electrician for 26 years so what would I know.
it s probably me making it sound complicated as i was just wanting to clarify everything and get it all wired safe and correct first time. Was just a little un easy with bringing the main positive or negative into the cab. hence why i thought the additional solenoid only fed by low voltage was a good idea oh and i ll end up with a nice illuminated toggle switch on my dash ! and who doesnt like switches and lights on their dash eh!!?

All cables and wires run the same voltage, 12 volt.
You don't need to run any powercables in the cab, just the wires for the switches.
Keep all cables, solenoids, batteries, winches and such under the bonnet and in winch bumper

jimnydms wrote: Tom you ve got me concerned about my winch solenoid not being mounted directly on the winch I have 3x 2m of 40mm2 cable between between the motor contacts and the solenoid my jimny is off the road haven't been able to test it so if I'm going to change where the solenoid is located now is my time to do it
Don't be concerned. It's just the optimal setting, having the solenoid close to the winch.
What winch have you got?
40mm2 cable is okay for occasional winching. But not sufficient for competition and such.
I used 60 mm2 for my 8274 with Warn XP motor, and now 70 mm2 cable to power two Bowmotor 1's. Should probably upgrade to 95mm2 for the bowmotors some day

I have a goodwinch TDS 9.5 maybe not as good as a warn but better that the lower end market I'm sure.
I ll be using it mainly for green laning and pp days I would like to get into challenges considering the kit I have built my jimny up with but don't have the sufficient roll cage, YET !
Do you do challenges ?
