hi John, have a look if you havent already on www.4x4tyres.co.uk/4x4_tyre_size_tool.php may or may not help.

my tyres are 195/80/15 on standard steels heres some pics to show you the amount of clearance:

front:

rear:

using 4x4 tyres the 215/75's total diameter is 10mm bigger than my tyre's.

i have no issues with rubbing and im not lifted, they do get VERY close tho.

Hello Alex.
Yes loved the link - spent hours with the calculator getting the figures the other day.
You have the standard rims in the pics and a consideration I have to make is that I might end up using my standard rims if the alloys are a failure so in that respect I know I am safe at 215 70.

The alloys are 7x15 so there is the spread possibly to take in to account. They now have 205 70s on them which should normally mean a sidewall depth of 143mm (which I presume is from bead to tread but actually shows 120mm visible). However the standard wheels with 205 70s are showing 120mm visible so the wider wheel spread does not make an apparent difference.

215 80s size goes up to 172mm sidewall so I need an extra 30mm which I just don't have on the front's front.

Or, looking at it another way is you would need another 9+mm more clearance than your 215s need. So have you got that much?? ;)

in theory your wider rims should stretch the tyre makin it slightly lower profile but by how much is anyones guess. doubt ive got that much clearance on full flex they get very close to the inside of the arches, i wouldnt be able to fit wheel spacers i dont think recon it would rub.

Wider rims won't reduce the diameter of the tyre at all. The steel wires in a tyre keep this consistent and any difference in rim width is taken up by the sidewalls.

Your problem is going to be with the increased offset. Do you know how much it is?

Offhand no. The backspace (hub to rim) on the 7x15s is nominally 3.5".

If I knew the standard wheel offset I could compare. I am guessing the increase is about 1" maybe 1.5"
