I did look at one of those DAB windscreen antennas thinking it might improve the signal for me.The lad I lift share with has a Merc and his DAB goes off in certain areas for only a very short period. Where as mine is going off for much longer periods in more places that his, so I doubt that is signal related, must be antenna receiver related.

But first things first, I will check out the wires/connections at the base of my antenna.

I live in a geologically challenged country, in between hills and valleys and i changed my glass antenna to a cheap ebay DAB/FM active antenna for the roof. Placed it center and 15cm from the back edge of the roof. Acc to an antenna specialist there should be 15cm of steel around it minimum.
Works great.

Got some pictures of the underside of the antenna base, not brilliant as it was difficult to get the camera between the roof and headlining.

Looks like three wires on one connector, an aftermarket replacement might be a problem unless the new wires are run to the head unit?

Not sure how the surround comes off the screen to try and get a look at the connectors at the back of the head unit?

Is it 3 wires from the antenna base, to the white connector there? I can't really imagine anything else.

Yes exactly that, shadow from the flash makes it look like more wires.

As expected really. Then you are back to finding a 1/2 length antenna (1/2 of whats there today).

It's possible to cut the signal cables, and use connectors etc, but to get that properly done is a pain, and you need the right tools, and this and that.

How stiff are the antenna that is there today, really?

Still looking into this. I removed the head unit to look at the connectors. I think I may have a solution.

I am thinking if I buy this Swivel base aerial and use a separate GPS antenna. I hope that with the adaptors they sell I will be able to connect the replacement aerial to the connector in the roof lining. Still need to do a bit of digging.

Shouldn't be an issue, as long as the little white connector up in the ceiling matches. As long as you get the right signal type on the right cable, they'll work. They are standard. You only need to get a good connection, and the right cables to match.

Or you need to chop cables, and join them manually. As mentioned before, it might not be fantastic fun.

Glad to see you have progress :)
