Rear gearbox oil seal was created by Danparry
I’ve got a 2006 vvt m13a jimny and I’ve noticed abit of oil that has been sprayed around in the same area as the rear gearbox oil seal,
there’s no oil leaking on the ground just kinda moist with oil around the area,
ive had my gearbox rebuilt 1year ago there’s no oil anywhere else.
my question is,
is it a big deal at this point like does it need fixing ASAP?
and if so is it’s best for a mechanic to do it or is it a easy job to do at home?
also if so is there a workshop manual to show me how to change it?

Hi it's not a hard job to do if you've changed oil seal before
If you're not changing the oil at the same time. You will need to put car ramps under rear wheels
this stops any oil escaping when you pull the propshaft out.
You only need to remove prop from gearbox to the transferbox.
There is not a lot of room to work in,I used a good fit socket with 6" extension bar and a lump hammer to tap new one into place
Genuine seal from bigjimny shop at a reasonable price

It's quite likely it could be the propshaft that you need to look at. You can seal the hole in the propshaft or buy a new corrected one but they're expensive. Have a look back through the site and you will get plenty more information.

I wasn't planning on changing gear oil as well but is it easier to do so to complete the job??
I've never changed the oil seal before.
I've just ordered a new seal for it.

Ohh OK
Has there been issues with the propshafts.
How would I tell if it's the propshaft that's the issue??
And if so what sort of glue or sealant is best to seal the props haft hole with?
