I also think it was the CV, or CV related.
I think it has to come apart, I might see what I can see through removing a kingpin and putting a camera in the hole.

Drove it up and down the road.
The knock, knock, knock sound is directly road speed related and does not change if in 4wd, 4wd low or 2wd (manual hubs locked or unlocked.)
It is coming from the rear.
Jacking it up, you can hear the noise in the video (apart from the discs dragging and local fireworks!)
Sounds like something is damaged in the diff.
As I have an ARB air locker in the diff (although I never used it on the day), something somewhere is not happy.
Guess I need to find someone capable of rebuilding a diff.
Does anyone have a spare rear diff (2003 M13 engine, so should be a 3.909) so that I can keep on the road whilst re-building?

Oh no. That doesn't sound good. Is there a gearbox specialist near you, they should be able to help?

Whoo-hoo
Thanks to Dave (S200 KYS) a temporary replacement diff is on its way from Wales. This will let me keep BigJImny on the road whilst learning how to dismantle and repair the one with the ARB in.
