Ok thanks, it seems like that's the problem as the car didn't overheat until immediately after the liquid seal went in. Should I start with the 2 heater pipes into the matrix and would a blocked matrix stop the flow to the thermostat area ?

Its a start yes, it will more than likely be a smaller pipe that golf I did had one going to the side of the head that was blocked solid had to tske the pipe off and use a welding rod to bash it out then blasted it with brake cleaner and air.

this was a 55,000 mile K series engine that instead of repairing k seal was used, this helped (along with the moron behind the wheel) to destroy the engine, I was lucky in that I had already rebuilt an engine and I replaced all the hoses , but to clean the heater matrix and under floor pipes I hooked up a central heating pump and really hot soapy water and left it pumping, some put a dish washer tablet in ( not sure what the effects of really caustic stuff is )
Could be worth taking the rad off and flushing through with a hose pipe
Did you replace the water pump?

Hi the water pump was replaced about 6 months ago, I haven't looked in there since adding the steel seal though. I will get the hose pipe out on Friday and see what the flow through the engine and heater matrix are like?

I would disconnect the heater hoses from the matrix and then join them together with a piece of plumbing pipe and run the engine - therefore bypassing the blockage.
You have blocked the heater matrix by the sound of things and no circulation will mean it overheats and will blow up.

Hi
I have just had the hose pipe to the bottom heater matrix pipe and flushed out some rubbish via the top pipe, so the matrix is now flowing clear. I also ran the pipe through the heater rubber hose into the engine and the water came out of the top heater/engine pipe and the radiator bottom outlet (top hose still connected to radiator). Wasn't expecting anything from the bottom hose due to the thermostat being closed. Just filling it up and will report back.
