Alt belt failures
I've heard of the tensioner bearing failing but can't see why that would cause a belt to snap.

mickt wrote: kirkynut and Busta. The tensioner is on the power steering belt not the alternator and the bearing in that is fine. As mentioned I checked the water pump and alternator bearings and they are fine. According to James(j999pre) who knows his Jimnys the belts are different on the single cam(g13bb) compared to the dual cam(m13a) engines. Luckily the belts I have been fitting to the m13a engine has been the correct one. Gates 4PK850. Its power steering uses a Gates 4pk830. The single cam uses a gates 4pk813 on both systems.
Be careful as this is not 100% correct, by far and away the most common belt I have sold is the 4PK835 which you do not even mention.
