Mine was doing this on long motorway drives and uphills.
Turned out to be the clutch on the viscus fan that had gone weak, I
Found that the wind from driving was actually slowing/stopping the fan.

Fitted a second hand one that I got from James on here and it's perfect again now.

I'm thinking viscous fan too. I think if mine fails I'll find a way of locking it permanently.

It's ok at the minute.

I did lock mine out with tie wraps to try it first.
You should hear the whoosh you get when you rev it lol

Every morning mine sounds like a Dornier taking off :D Lasts about 10 seconds until the silicone fluid gets spun out......

My radiator has possibly half the cooling capacity of a "normal" Jimny due to the lower half being mashed flat......temps are always around half-way on the gauge though so maybe the cooling system is quite well specced?

Try measuring the temp with an external thermometer maybe.......the gauge might be fibbing?

If it failed an electric front mounted fan will be my choice.

My old SJ 410 was fixed from the factory so I know what you mean. It's no issue though. Some big 4x4 's sound like it too, so they must take a bit before they unlock.

Hope it's fixed Tom!
