The white sealant works for me OK! Your springs have not become too weak overtime have they? Perhaps new springs might be the answer?

Found the issue.

I took the joint apart tonight to wipe sealant around it and noticed something. As much as I dream of a tidy garage with neat racks of tools I am untidy and the old sealing ring from the original exhaust was still on the garage floor.

As I took the new ring off to put sealant around it I noticed.......

yes, the new one is smaller!!

So I popped the old one in (with some sealant for luck) and hey presto! its solved.

Since I started buying bits for The Other Car from ECP, I always check everything is identical to what came off, as ECP have a (well deserved) reputation for supplying totally wrong parts. (But they have a good returns policy....) ;)

Glad you got it sorted anyway, I'd have suggested white exhaust paste like everyone else B)

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

I hate Eurocarparts but do use them occasionally. More often than not they remind me why I hate them! It is because A) they supply the wrong parts and B) when they supply the right parts it is rubbish when not a big brand like Bosch, Pagid etc.
