Is there a problem with the normal idle speed in winter? The job of the IAC is to maintain a steady idle speed, regardless of electrical load etc. It should work fine all year.

The throttle position sensors are not accurate and do not control mixture etc, they have a tolerance of how much they can be out , its the maf sensor thats the important one and that measures the amount of air through the throttle body! With a bypass that I described earlier then that is in effect a tiny throttle body so the maf thinks the throttle is slightly open and and as long as you don't raise it to much it wont bother the position sensor. This does work as I did it with my truck and it worked faultlessly.
But as was said above it should lift automatically for electrical load! I did it more for control while driving with ultra low gearing.

Sounds like a good work around, the jimny has map sensor though I thought? I'm sure it would still work though. Is there a throttle stop screw on the throttle body? This could be used to open the throttle a little also?

The Jimny doesn't use a MAF, its a MAP based system. If you add additional air past the throttle then the ECU will back off the idle speed controller to compensate, if the ISC maxes out then the ECU will go into fail-safe mode. It is possible to raise the idle a little by cheating the ECU into believing that the AC is on but It won't make a lot of difference to the output from the alternator, particularly if you're using the AC anyway.

If your ECU is reflashable then you can modify the target idle speed table.
