Difficulty getting the transfer box from 4wd back to 2wd

Went out in the Jim shooting on the farm last night and used 4wd. When it came to switching back to 2wd the lever initially seemed stuck but with a fair bit more effort went back in. I've moved it forwards/back since and it seems fine.

Any idea what was going on?

Sounds like transmission wind up. Had you gone onto a firm surface?

i agree with Martin, that the gearbox/transfer case is locked up ... when this happens, go BACKWARDS for about 50-1000yds, that normally frees it up!

Jalapeño, IISY?

I have a similar issue with mine. I have a rocklobster and read the shifter sheet can become perished, mine certainly was when I checked it. I changed it and still get it. I can always move backwards and forwards and get it back to 2WD but it's a bit annoying. I'm hoping it will improve when I put some less aggressive tyres on as it's on 255 special tracks at the moment.

Thanks guys- it shouldn't have wound up as was using it on v slippery mud/ grass with only about 20m on a gravel track.
Have tried today in and out of 4wd and goes in smoothly.
Am I likely to have damaged anything?
Is it best to stay 2wd unless you start wheel spinning and use 4wd for those bits?

Well this happened again- stiff to change back to 2wd after being offroad.

Would a transfer oil change help??
