"Guardian Angel" That seems too cheap to be true considering the complexity of the area(3 skins in places) and the access(bit tight and awkward. Lets hope he is true to his word and he fully run welds all edges of the repair as required by the Mot regs.

To be fair we did have the conversation about seeing if the quote covers the full extent on the day. I did my best to describe the problem, but if I have to stump up a little more then so be it. It won't pass the MOT in the state it's in.

The firm is Mobile Master Welders . They seemed to be straight forward and honest in the phone (don't they all  ) but it's the only option at the moment. Welding is the only skill I don't have and I intended to get some lessons this year but work and everything go in the way. But I am determined to try so I don't have to pay anyone again.

Finished welding the rot. All welds are run welds plus a couple of spot welds. The area is black as I have treated them with " Aqua Steel". Its a rust converter/inhibitor. Brush on. It is a white liquid which turns black as it reacts with the rust. It forms a microscopic skin preventing the air getting to the steel. I pour some into a plastic spray can lid which I then use to brush it on the car. After a few doses of that you can peel the skin off the plastic lid showing that it works.
As the welds are hidden I have not bothered grinding them flat. I will be sealing the seams with metal putty and then painting them with the Aldi metal paint and finally brush them with seam sealer.

That's a lot of good hard work there.

I tend to paint joins that are hidden with underseal with added Waxoyl.

I used to use the underseal route and waxoyl but unless you go over them about every year they are prone to breakdown as they tend to remain soft. At the end of the day it is a lottery. nature wins in the end, it is only a matter of time!

I've had that stuff on my sump plate on the Pajero for years and it is a tough as ever. ;) It is underseal with Waxoyl in it. B)

Repair now totally finished. After "aquasteel" I sealed (hopefully) the welds with that steel impregnated 2 part filler and then painted the repair. As both areas are hidden from normal view making it look "nice" was not really necessary.
