410 transfer box 4:99;1 axles running on 33s and exactly what is your exspeirience of diesel jimnys then as you are obviously talking from exsperience or talking absolute bollox

Just crunched the numbers and a jimny running 33s with standard axle ratios and transfer box would be pulling 55mph at 2500 rpm

So you have lots of gear reduction with those axles and the 410 transfer box. Obviously you needed to increase the low down torque

Of course I've never owned a diesel Jimny. I can't see the point in putting a diesel engine in a small 4x4. Judging by the number of people opting for petrol conversions over diesel, neither can anyone else. Show me any other vehicle where people are changing petrols to diesels to gain power... I have bought a complete Liana with T&T for less than half the price of your £700 conversion kit and will be swapping the engines in due course once the T&T expire.

I'm not talking bollocks. It's science. Power= torque x rpm / 5252. If you want to increase torque you have to reduce rpm. A petrol makes its power at higher rpm than a diesel so needs lower gearing but the nett result is the same. The extra rev range of the petrol cancels out the lower gearing.

Which is a lot higher revs than most diesels would run at 55mph but about right for a decent petrol. What revs is yours doing at 55?

Hmmm.....

Interesting discussion :)

The only real reason why the 1.7TD could be something for me is that is has a turbo, and as such makes it much easier to get more performance, legally.

If I had the money, I would much rather have a petrol turbo, with a much wider range of power than of a diesel that usually only has it's power in a 2500 rpm range.

would love to have the 1.6 Ecoboost we have in our Focus, installed in the Jimny. Lots of power and torque, all the way from 1500 rpm up to 6000 rpm, that would be something :)

So, I'll probably stick with the G16B when I get the money. Much cheaper, easier to install, and lots of performance upgrades available as well. So 120-130 bhp should be possible, still N/A :)
