The top of my Yellow Dipstick snapped last year (not sure how) - but i got it out and drilled a small hole in the top and threaded wire into it, and then the wire is secured in engine bay -- as i also could not find a replacement Dipstick that suited my budget.
Regarding CLUTCH - try this www.clutchreplacement.co.uk/

Thanks for the input and help everyone
I couldn't see any dipstick whatsoever in my brief look at the engine bay so maybe the rocker cover will have to come off.....think I'll ask for a second viewing as forgot to check the 4wd worked ok whoops!
The gearbox seemed a fair bit stiffer than my much higher mileage 2005 jimny- likely to be related to clutch issues? Gearbox didnt crunch or anything and did go into each gear.
Would a garage easily be able to diagnose whether its the clutch cable or the clutch itself at fault?

Gear shift weight shouldn't be affected by a worn clutch. If the clutch isn't fully disengaging then the gears might crunch but the lever action should still be light.

Well we bought the jimny! The seller managed to get the snapped dipstick out and luckily only £15 from suzuki so a nice easy fix to that issue!
Re the clutch on looking at the car's service history it had a new clutch in 2010 at 68k (now on 75k) so it would seem unlikely the clutch itself has gone. I drove it again and the biting point was in the right place and it wasn't slipping, just graunchy and heavy so fingers crossed may just be a clutch cable. Going in the garage next week so shall see how it goes!
