Seen loads of stuff about snapped dipsticks, the blue jimny I've just sold also had one, was a bugger to get out. Didn't think about taking the rocker cover off though, that would've saved me a couple of hours.
Anyway I too got one from Suzuki for £15 and found that even from new the little o ring provides so much resistance that over a period of time I reckon the angled yanking of the stick puts too much strain on it and that why so many break.
I took the o ring off and also off our other Jimny.
Dipstick doesn't leak oil and slides in and out with little effort.
