Grinding Noise When Pulling Away From Stop.

Hi,

A question for you guys:

Today when pulling away from a junction the front of the Jimny seemed to make a grinding noise. I could feel a judder from the front, but through it was simply from the front wheels slipping (tight left hand lock on wet roads).

I dismissed it.

But upon stopping and then having to pull away again, it does it. It sounds like a metallic grinding slipping kind of noise.

It comes from the front and happens in 2WD.

I've put the car into 4WD and can hear both hubs locking and unlocking as required.

Any thoughts on what it could be?

I'm on standard suspension with no mods apart from slightly bigger 215 tyres.

Oh well, off to the garage today.

Brakes? Worn pads, binding caliper?

Any oil in the diffs? Have they taken in water?

All the above, plus stone trapped behind the disc shield.

Thanks for the ideas guys. They're all worth a look.

Seemed odd it would only do it pulling away and there was no other noise in any other gears or at any other speed.

Haven't done much deep water so would home it's not water in the diffs, the oils were only changed a few thousand miles back.
