Can I ask how an MOT tester would know if the Air Bags were in the car or not ? I know in the Jimny they are pretty easy to spot but would you get under the dash to check ?

After market steering wheels plus there may be airbag/srs writen on the passenger side of the dash and also may have an air bag turn off key switch and all new cars have them and when looking under the dash at the pedal box and steering collum all air bag wireing is in yellow split tubing

Good points. seemed like a good question when I asked ;)

If your seat is in the right position air bags shouldnt hurt apart from the friction burns up ya arm it the women that sit with there
Tits rubbing on the steering that worry me if the air bag goes off even if its a light tap to set it off it may kill them by braking there neck due to the bag coming out as thay go forward

If your seated right you should meet the bag as it up and then you hitting it deflates it

Its a very complex calculation which usually uses a 3-axis gyroscope to determine direction and impact force. If the airbags didn't go off and the driver didn't get hurt then it just wasn't a hard enough impact.
Old airbags are often unreliable, a work colleague recently had an accident in an old Mazda, the airbags didn't deploy but around ten seconds after the impact the airbag warning light started flashing to indicate that a fault had been detected (it wasn't one designed by us!)

My Mum makes me worry as she is only a little over 4' and as a result drives an auto and sits so close to the wheel. There's not a lot she can do about it, but it does make me thing what you've said every time I see her drive.

Thay say a good seating position is foot on the clutch knee slightly bent (auto spose foot on the brake) and your eldows bent to just above your lower rib a pillow may help to let her see over the steering wheel
