I noticed the jimny is year 2000. There is a small 3 wire plug coming from the main loom at the rear top side of the engine about 5 inch long black, blue, white
I can't find anywhere it fits and have looked for weeks I will try to add a pic but am having problems doing so.the engine I think is a standard 1298 for its year

A 2000 Jimny will be OBDI not OBDII, which is why your reader didn't work.
Let's go back to that three wire plug - take a closer look at the wires - Suzuki often uses wires with a main color and a different color stripe, so for example, blue with a black stripe, or black with a white stripe. What are the wire colors you have there?

Surely there is more than one wire in that connector.
Blue with a black stripe is the wire color Suzuki used to supply power to most of the fuel injection system components, so there will be quite a few possibilities, as to what that might have been connected to, if you're lucky someone with a 2000 Jimny might recognize it from the pictures, or, you could tell us what the colors on the other wires are and I can try to identify it that way.
