Look at the back of the cylinder head between the engine & the firewall, see if you can find the cam position sensor, and see if that is where that belongs

This is how you get codes on an OBDI Jimny - the monitor coupler is behind the glove box, you insert a jumper wire (#4) in to the connector so that it connects the diagnosis terminal (#3) to ground (#2) and then switch the ignition on, the check engine light should flash.

If the ECU detects no faults it should flash a "Code 12", which is one flash, followed by a short pause and then two flashes, followed by a long pause, and this will repeat.

Some codes, like the #42 for the cam position sensor are not detected unless the engine is cranked, so if you get a code 12, crank the engine with the jumper wire in and then look at the flashes before switching off to see if they have changed.

Thanks I will try this at weekend as I am back at work now. But I can't find any connection at back of engine. I did check the connector in question when ignition on and it gives blue wire at 12v, white at 6v, black to ground no reading with ignition off. I'll be on line after weekend ,thanks

If the car has an immobilizer, you might see 8X codes.
