Would it mean you could engage the 4wd on normal road driving?

If you wanted to engage in 4wd you would have to get out and change the free wheel hub to 4wd thats the main disadvantage.

The only advantage to swapping to the manual ones at this early stage is that it can give you 2wd low for low speed control i.e reversing a trailer in a yard.

But that's exactly what the factory vacuum hubs do with the advantage of being operated on demand from the cabin, no need to get out to engage.
When I swapped mine Dreadnaught was well out of warranty and the cost difference between repairing and replacing was minimal.
