I have an old Renault Laguna estate 1995 showing almost no rust, and the last few cars I've had over the last 20 years or so have all been fine,. Which gave me the false security of buying a Jimny, I thought all the manufacture had got their act together, after the rip-off we all endured with rust buckets of the 50,60,70,and 80's.... In the case of the Jimny its seams a backward step, a step too far...
I only do about 1500 miles a year, so I had hoped the 2009 would last me a good few years.. Maybe I should sell it while I'm a little ahead. Reading all our horror stories,,, I'm tempted it get rid..

It's pot luck with most cars especially used. Sometimes the tinworm isn't readily found until you can get to take a really close look. If you are ahead of the rust keep the vehicle and just try to keep on top of it.

If you want tin worm, buy a defender. Different league in the rusting to nothing game. There are cars six months old going back under warranty for rust related defects. A jimny by comparison might as well be galvanised.

Temeraire (2018 quasar grey automatic)
One of the last 200ish of the gen3s, probably.
Bellerophon (2024 grello van daily
ADOS Attention Deficit Ooooh Shiny!

Well I've got to say I do like the Jimny and working on it is easy so far, having said that I've only changed the oil/filter and air filter and the off side front king pin bearings, but I also like driving it, drove right across Europe 2,500 miles in three days, no prob at all. Smooth drive, why people say its poor to drive on the road I don't understand, of course its brill of road too.. The engine is very good, starts first time and does what it says on the tin,,,
