completely disagree with this I used a 3000lb winch doing every thing my 13000lb winch does now and it never failed

you cant of been that stuck, must of just needed that extra bit off pull to get you moving,

i'd go for atleast 6000lbs but i went for 9500lbs,

if not competing winch speed doesnt really matter, as long as it gets you out,

i went for a goodwinch tds 9.5c really happy with it, also seen one in action on a trip out which included a big recovery job before i purchased mine and it performed fantasticly

What about some 5/10 ton ratchet straps? Cheaper and more versatile. Just needs some hard work to get you out of trouble ;-)

ye ive been extremely stuck with it half way up doors in Salisbury plain clay mud and pulled me out with abit of a struggle with no engine to help, also pulled out a Hilux from same sort of situation
the winch is now on the rear of the jimny and pulls my brothers pajero out a lot as he is usually behind me plus can be doubled up with a snatch block then you have 6000lb of pull

but a 3000lbs winch is a 1300kg winch pull rate,

a jimny weighs the best part of 1.1 tons plus yourself and other stuff in the car, lets say another 100kg, that gives you 100kg to play with,

when recovering a friends truck i've seen a pile of mud form infront and at a guess from its size it was bigger than 2, 1 tonne bags infront of the truck, that means there would of been no way in hell a 3000lbs winch would pull it even with a snatchblock

it may have worked for you, but its more of a ATV winch rather than a 4x4

in my own opinion 6000lbs minimum and theres no need to go higher than 9500lbs

im not saying get a 3000lb winch just saying it will and has on many occasions pull a jimny out of anywhere he will get stuck ive been there and done it and wouldn't of stuck in on the rear of the jimny if I didn't trust it to pull me out as ill never drive around any thing so recovery is very important, would be very cheep and light weight for a lanner jimny
