Under the bonnet ,
This gets you in the good habit of leaving the bonnet up wile winching ......added protection if the wire/rope makes a break for it and heads back to the jimny at high speed

Thanks for your replies. I might spend a bit of time taking the wipers off ect to see if it's possible to mount it on that panel, if not maybe recessed in the passenger wing.

Or you but a separate Albright solenoid 2 terminal jobby sw80 I think is called to switch the power via a switch on the dash

That seems exactly like the solution I need. Is that the solenoid switch you have? I suppose I should try and find out the maximum amp's mywinch will pull to get the right solenoid.

I mounted mine on the panel you remove under the steering wheel to get to the fuse box. That way it's inside out of the weather and accessible from the driver's seat and not far from the battery.
