You do away with a normal manual isolator and have the solenoid in line insted and is operated by a switch in cab. This was my preferred way and not that expensive. A cheap switch on off switch with a led £5 and the solenoid was 30£ off eBay.

That was the exact Albright switch I put in my watch list after your first poast. A picture would be exelant, I have had good practice wiring relays so it should be a walk in the park to do.

You do need to be able to cut the power to the winch aswell as the solenoid. Imaging if your heavy winch power supply cable were to rub through somewhere & ground out! If you were not with it or couldn't switch it off the fireworks would spell the end of your Jimjam and you'd be claiming for a burnt out car along with whatever else it burnt or damaged that was nearby.

Some people fuse it but it's not usual due to the size of the fuse so it must be switched.

Doing it this way Kirkynut your not running any high powered cables through bulk head etc. they are just run in engine bay secured correctly. Then you have a 5amp signal from a switch in can to the solenoid. That's powered by a fused positive direct from the battery. I can't see you d need another manual isolator ?
